It's been a great opening week!  We have been very busy (see our facebook page for some wonderful posts); the lines have gone fairly fast and the serving and kitchen staff have been cheerfully keeping up.  We have great people working for us both in the front and the back of the house.  Suki, our chef, has been turning out wonderful tasty food and we've heard many, many positive reviews.

Okay, so now the close of our second week has come and gone.  We are equally thrilled with the response we are getting, the delightful range of customers who come through our door, and the excellent food that our kitchen has been producing.  We tried out our first Saturday night special this week,  and hope to be offering more in the future.  (We have started doing a twitter feed - BagitosCafe - which might be easier for announcing these kinds of things.)  Meanwhile, we had a marvelous guitarist, James Gram, playing Spanish guitar for a couple of hours this Sunday morning while we basked in his tuneful beautiful music.  It was warm inside Bagitos on this cold rainy morning, which was a nice complement to the delicious breakfast burritos and fresh bagels on offer.  There was a buzz in the air all day as people streamed in, happy to find themselves in a warm and friendly place with plenty of room to sit and enjoy: the music, the food, the atmosphere.  Thank you Montpelier for another incredible week downtown.

Our first month has flown by.  We were featured in the Times Argus newspaper on Friday the 24th with a wonderful article detailing the variety of our food offerings as well as the music and relaxed atmosphere.  "A taste of New York at affordable prices"  An apt byline and description.  We have expanded our music to include an open mic every Monday evening from 7 to close, and will be starting an Irish/celtic session on Tuesday evenings beginning on June 28th.  We have a few musicians lined up for the July 4th weekend (see the Events and Specials page), and are looking for more interested musicians to join our mostly acoustic venue - give us a ring to let us know if you're interested in playing for us.  Meanwhile, people far and wide have been telling us they love the food including some really delectable baked goods, fresh organic coffee and the excellent wines and beer on tap.  We have trimmed our menu a bit in response to feedback and to make sure we get it 'right' before adding more items back in.  So, we will try and keep an updated menu on our web site here, and we print menus that you can pick up for your very own by visiting us in person.  Come on by and stay awhile.  Did you know we have WiFi?

We are well into our second month now and we've learned many lessons and are enjoying the more mellow summer pace that is in progress.  We've learned that Montpelier is an enthusiastic and supportive town.  We've learned that we need to keep our menu focused on quality rather than quantity.  We've learned that people are loving the things we do best:  fresh bagels and tasty burritos.  We've learned that we are part of a vibrant downtown community of wonderful shop owners, shoppers, friends and neighbors.  We've learned that you can never say thank you enough.  We've learned that people love to hear live music and musicians are calling asking 'when can I come play?'.  We've learned that many people do not know that we serve beer, wine and champagne.  We've learned that it can get very hot in Bagitos with the bagel oven going and with the recent heat wave.  We've learned that we can always improve: customer service, efficiency, temperature, ingredient selections, menu items, etc.  We've learned that we love this business and all that it has brought to our lives.  And we hope you feel the same.

We've added a twitter feed which is especially useful to announce our ever expanding musical offerings.  We've added more air conditioning to cool down the cafe.  We've continually updated the menu as we hone in on just the right product at just the right price.  We've added acoustic blues on Wednesday nights to give a home to all those lonely blues players out there.  We've solidified our kitchen team and added a new baker who is producing scrumptious cookies and brownies.  We've been bringing you excellent coffees and teas both hot and cold to take us through this Vermont summer.  And we've been watching and listening carefully as you give us feedback to make this cafe the place you want to be for a meal, a coffee, a bit of evening music or a beer after work.  We welcome you and look forward to seeing you again soon.  And thanks for 'listening'.

As fall settles in on Central Vermont, Bagitos wants to invite you all in from the cold to enjoy the warm atmosphere and great food, drink and music we've got 7 days a week.  Of course we have the same great Bagels & Burritos we have  become know for.  In addition, we have added a few menu items, including hummus which you can have either on a bagel, on our own garlic bagel chips or with organic corn chips.  You can also purchase bags of our bagel chips including savory, spicy, and sweet varieties.  And now our bagel chips will be available at the Hunger Mountain Coop!  Very exciting.  More menu changes; we've increased the variety of cream cheeses based on on a combination of customers' suggestions and in-house culinary experimentation.  We now have bacon-horseradish, jalapeno chive, and blueberry, in addition to the standby's of plain, veggie, scallion, olive, and maple-walnut.  Noel has been busy creating some great desserts, including some that are vegan and that use gluten and/or wheat-free flour.  Our staples are brownies (plain and with salt), chocolate chip cookies (with walnuts and without), and vegan, wheat free ginger cookies.  And there are usually other creative offerings so stop by to see what's for dessert today! Our music scene has taken off with Open Mic every Monday evening, our Irish/Celtic sessions on Tuesdays (switching to Saturday afternoons in October) and the Blues/Jazz jam on Wednesdays. Filling in the rest of the evenings, we've had live music at Bagitos consistently 5 or 6 nights a week with a diverse range of music from blues to soul to folk.  We even have a Ragtime Marimba player coming at the end of this month (9/29 at 6pm).  How's that for diversity?  So, come down for dinner, dessert, and a beer or glass of wine and enjoy the sounds of local musicians.  Our music calendar is always on our website events-specials page or you can click here to check out the week's offerings and more on our Facebook page.

As the endless fall continues in Central Vermont, Bagitos is heading into high gear on the music and events calendar.  This week, we have live music 6 out of 7 days and story telling the 7th (next one is Tuesday 11/15 at 6:30pm).  Everybody has really been enjoying the music which ranges from 10-15 Irish musicians playing traditional music on Saturday afternoons to smooth jazz on Sunday to blues and folk on various evenings.

On the food side of things, we have continued to uphold our high standards on the burrito/taco front and plan to add soups and chile's as the weather gets colder.  After having some trouble with our bagel consistency due to changes in weather conditions (temperature, humidity, etc.) as the seasons changed, we now have it all figured out again and are back to having the same fantastic bagels we have become known for.  Sorry for those of you who may have gotten a bagel over the past month or so that was not quite up to our high standards.  Remember, we have only been in business about 5 months and each new season brings new challenges this first time around.  We now have comment cards at Bagitos so please let us know if there is something that needs improving or if you eat, drink, or see something that you want to tell us about (good or bad).  Our black & White cookies are back so come on down and try this NYC favorite.  We're also getting back to basics with our desserts, with some amazing chocolate chip cookies, brownies, and vegan, wheat-free ginger cookies.

Philip is keeping our beer selection new and fresh with the recent addition of a Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout, a Fish Head 60 minute IPA, Allagash Tripel, and hard apple cider.    We still have the wonderful wines that have been very well received (somebody wanted a bottle to take home the other night but we unfortunately are not allowed to do that).   We've also added hot cocoa to our coffee & tea menu and it's organic and fair-trade (as is our coffee).  So, come on down, say hello, grab something to eat and/or drink, listen to some great live music, and let us know what you think!
